Trafficking in persons

Case No. 2060/2009

Fact Summary

In May 2005, the defendant travelled to Egypt and sold his kidney for 2000 dollars. He was prosecuted upon his return to Jordan as selling an organ for money is prohibited under Articles 10 and 4/c of the Jordanian Law on the Utilization of Human Organs.

The Court sentenced the defendant to one year in prison. However, due to his young age, and in compliance with Article 100 of the Jordanian Penal Code, his sentence was commuted to one month in prison.
