
In the period going from January 2005 to November 2007, the defendant recruited young women and female minors residing in the city of Zaporozhie, most of whom were in difficult family or personal circumstances and had a low income, to engage in prostitution in Zaporozhie and in nearby locations. She withheld a percentage of the money the customers paid to the victims. She also arranged for the transfer and transportation of the victims to Kiev and across the Ukrainian border to Moscowfor commercial sexual exploitation.
The defendant also purchased, stored and sold marijuana.
From 2001 until the end of 2004, the defendant herself engaged in prostitution.

Reasoning: The defendant was convicted and sentenced to 5 years for trafficking in persons (Article 149, Parts 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), creating or running brothels and trading in prostitution (Article 302, Parts 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), pimping or engaging a person in prostitution (Article 303, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and illegal production, making, purchasing, storage, transportation, sending or sale of narcotics, psychotropic substances or their analogues (Article 307, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The court sentenced the defendant to 5 years in prison.
The defendant was discharged from serving the sentence under Articles 75 and 76 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on a three-year probation period because the Court, after taking into account the gravity of an offence, the character of the convicted (in particular, that he pleaded guilty, had no prior convictions, was responsible for her under-age child and received good references from her place of residence and the university where she studied), found that the convicted could be reformed without serving the punishment.
