This section provides suggestions for post-class assignments for the purpose of assessing student understanding of the Module. Suggestions for pre-class or in-class assignments are provided in the Exercises section.
The purpose of this exercise is to allow students to apply their acquired knowledge of the international framework and assess its implementation in practice. It further requires students to do independent research into their jurisdiction's laws and facilitates a greater understanding of how their country takes action against wildlife trafficking.
In a research paper of 2000 words, analyse implementation of the legal framework examined in this Module in your country. The paper should broadly cover the following points:
Select a species, and provide a short research paper on whether there should be a trade ban applied to this species. Include the pros/cons, evaluate the literature, and take a position on whether the species should be listed (if not), or delisted or uplisted on CITES. Select a species that is being trafficked, and provide an overview of what countries are doing to address this based on the international frameworks described in this module.
