Possible class structure

This section contains recommendations for a teaching sequence and timing intended to achieve learning outcomes through a three-hour class.

NOTE: The class structure proposed is merely indicative. As students' prior knowledge and exposure to these issues varies widely, the lecturer should adapt contents as well as the time suggested for each component of the Module, according to the educational and social context, needs of the students and as otherwise appropriate.

Ice-breaker and attention-catcher

It is suggested that this Module commences with the screening of a short film: Survivors of Human Trafficking by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (approx 5:30 minutes). Lecturers should refer to Exercise 1.

Lecture

in line with the topics described under Introduction and learning outcomes (app. 85 minutes)

Break (10 minutes)

Exercises (app. 60 minutes)

They should be assigned and completed as follows:

• The class is to be divided in small groups, with each being assigned one of the 'Exercises' proposed (it is for the lecturer to decide whether to resort to all 'Exercises' proposed or focus on one or few);
• Each group should review the case study or fact problem and prepare the answers to the questions posed (15 minutes);
• Each group presents its responses to the rest of the class and the floor is open to discussion (app. 2-5 minutes per group);
• 'Wrap-up' by lecturer (5 minutes).
