Interfering with data
5.(1) A person who knowingly or recklessly, and without lawful excuse or
justification,
(a) destroys or alters data;
(b) renders data meaningless, useless or ineffective;
(c) obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use of data;
(d) obstructs, interrupts or interferes with any person in the lawful use of
data; or
(e) denies access to data to any person entitled to the data;
is guilty of an offence and is liable on conviction on indictment to a fine of $50 000
or to imprisonment for a term of 5 years or to both.
(2) Subsection (1) applies whether the person’s act is of temporary or
permanent effect.
