Traite des personnes

Case No. 2772/2009

Résumé des faits

The defendant, R.H.M.A.G., travelled to Egypt in 2009 and met with a man named A.M. He stayed with Ma’rouf in his apartment, and after some time, agreed to sell his kidney for $4,000. He had his kidney removed at a hospital, where he remained for 15 days following his surgery. He received his payment at the hospital, but it was later stolen. Upon return to Jordan, he was arrested for selling an organ in exchange for money, as it is prohibited under Articles 4/c and 10 of the Jordanian Law on the Utilization of Human Organs.

The Court sentenced him to 1 year imprisonment, but in accordance with Article 100 of the Jordanian Penal Code, his sentence was commuted to 3 months as he confessed to the crime and due to his young age.
